Natural Weight Loss for seniors
Evidenced-based medicine has conclusively shown that obesity in the elderly contributes to adverse health effects such as:
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease, and
- Osteoarthritis
- Metabolic syndrome
There is also accompanying reduction in muscle strength in the elderly which effects daily living.
Therefore, natural weight-loss therapy that minimizes muscle and bone losses is recommended for older persons who are obese.
Complementary medicine research study published in the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences has shown that consumption of 30 grams of beef per day as part of a calorie controlled diet can help the obese seniors to loose weight despite limited exercise.
The study was funded by ‘Beef Checkoff’ a beef-promotion program. Further research is required to validate these findings and if validated then grass fed cattle rather than hormone–fed cattle would be the preferred food and nutrition advice to prevent health imbalances.
