Misery of Infertility
Many women (not all of course) dream about sometime in their life having the ecstasy of being handed their first born by the midwife. But this does not always happen. Infertility affects more than 80 million people worldwide, with 40% of infertility problems residing exclusively in the woman. Infertility affects about 1 in 6 Australian couples. Reasons for infertility include:
• dysfunction of sperm or eggs
• the structure or function of male or female reproductive systems
• hormonal and immune conditions.

Many natural therapies can help with infertility. Evidence-based research has shown that infertility can be helped by several Alternative medicine systems such as Homeopathy, Herbal medicine, Ayurveda, Yoga, Acupuncture, Reflexology, Massage, Kinesiology, and much more. Conventional healthcare does not fully appreciate the power of Alternative Medicine but it is clear that Infertility patients are increasingly using Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) to supplement or replace conventional fertility treatments. If you combine conventional and the best of alternative medicine i.e. Integrative Medicine this would be a powerful healing combination. Here is a real -life case of how I treated Infertility in an Integrative Medicine centre.
A Real-Life Case
Mrs K, a 26-year-old presented with secondary Amenorrhea i.e. absence of menstrual periods for 18 months making her unable to conceive. She and her husband were keen to start a family. Various pharmaceutical medications prescribed by her doctor had no effect, so she turned to alternative drug-free therapy. For several months she had tried various Alternative treatments such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Homeopathy, but with no success. The team of medical doctors and complementary health practitioners decided that an Integrated medicine / therapy approach to solve this medical dilemma.
For effective treatment, the root cause of the illness must be determined and treated accordingly. Ayurvedic and Yoga diagnosis concurred with the diagnosis from the Acupuncturist i.e. stagnant energies in the ovaries and uterus. Ayurveda pulse diagnosis also highlighted Kapha imbalance which often indicates congestion in the body. A strategy was embarked upon beginning with a systematic Ayurvedic detoxification of the digestive system using a combination of Ayurvedic detoxification massages and diet for 5 days. This was later followed by the vitamin supplementation and Chinese herbs for 2 weeks to clear out blockages in the Fallopian tubes and uterus. Once these blockages were removed, it was then decided to tonify the ovaries and uterus using Yoga Acupressure (NadiMardanKriya), which stimulated the prana in the uterus and ovaries by applying gentle pressure to specific pranic switches situated on the arms and legs of the patient. Her husband was also taught how to do these treatments and he carried it out at home every alternate day for a period of eight weeks as Mrs K lived several hours away from the clinic. The Integrative Medicine medical doctor who was also a practising homeopath prescribed homeopathic remedies for her depression that resulted from Mrs.K being unable to conceive. Six weeks after the commencement of the Integrative Medicine program Mrs K’s periods returned and her depression ceased. She became pregnant a month later and was prescribed appropriate vitamins and minerals to support her pregnancy. Nine months later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy Samuel.
Similar successful treatment regimes for Infertility have been utilised depending on the root cause of infertility e.g. prolapsed uterus, dysmenorrhea, the acidity of vaginal fluids, fallopian tube blockages, fibroids, cysts, psychological reasons and infections.
