Bone Broth SuperfoodBone broth is regarded as a superfood as it is rich in minerals. This nutrient-dense food is indeed a superfood.

It helps the immune system, improves joint health, aids digestion and protects against colds and flu.

Bone broth is one of the most effective natural cure and remedies as it contains a good source of potassium.

It is made by simmering beef or chicken bones in water for long periods of time. This process results in leeching proteins, sodium, potassium and minerals into the broth solution. The main protein found in bone broth is collagen. Bone broth contains glycine, proline, and arginine all have anti-inflammatory effects.

Immune function

Research studies have shown that chicken broth is anatural cure and remedies for Upper Respiratory Tract infections as it is proposed that it mitigates inflammation and inhibits neutrophil migration. Neutrophils represent the largest number of immune cells in the human body. It has been demonstrated that neutrophils combat invading microorganisms.

Bone broth is made with bones and cuts of meat that are high in collagen. Examples include marrow(a good source of neutrophils), knuckles, and feet. While beef is the meat most people associate with bone broth, it can also be made with lambor chicken. It is best to roast the bones for 20 to 25 mins so that they are brown and caramelized.

Difference between Bone broth, Broth and Stock

  • Broth – simmering meat, vegetables and sometimes bones and is cooked for 2 hours
  • Stock – bones simmered in water, vegetables and is cooked for 4 to 6 hours
  • Bone broth – made from bones, with or without meat and is cooked 8 to 24 hours. This longer cooking process releases nutritious compounds collagen, glucosamine, amino acids, calcium and potassium.

Grass-fed bone broth is recommended

Bone broth should contain grass-fed bones (in the case of beef bone broth) or pasture-raised chicken bones (and necks, feet, etc.). It should also contain all-natural vegetables, spices and herbs. Both beef and chicken should be organically sourced.
